Reviving the Graduate Technology Club

Introducing the Boston College Graduate Technology Club (BC Grad Tech Club)

The tech industry has become one of the most exciting and rapidly growing sectors, and as students at the Carroll Graduate School of Management, we’re eager to explore the many career paths it offers. That’s why, alongside my classmate Hyemin, I decided to revive the Boston College Graduate Technology Club (BC Grad Tech Club)—a once-thriving student organization within the Graduate Management Association that had been dormant for over a decade.

The original BC Grad Tech Club was dedicated to helping graduate students explore and connect with diverse opportunities in the tech industry. However, as the school’s curriculum evolved, the club faded, and its valuable resources were lost. Recognizing the rising interest in tech careers among MBA students, we knew it was time to bring the club back to life to support the next generation of tech leaders.

Why Join the BC Grad Tech Club?

The BC Grad Tech Club is more than just a student organization; it’s a community dedicated to supporting our members as they explore and succeed in the tech industry. Whether you're interested in product management, marketing, or another tech-related field, the club is here to provide the resources, networking opportunities, and hands-on experiences you need to take your career to the next level.

Our First Kickoff Meeting: Demystifying Tech Careers

To launch the revival of the club, we held our first kickoff meeting, where we focused on one of the most crucial aspects of entering the tech industry: the application and interview process. We invited guest speakers from Solved, a company specializing in helping students and professionals navigate the competitive job market. Their insights helped demystify how to position oneself as a strong candidate for roles like tech product management and product marketing. Attendees left the event feeling more confident and informed about the path to securing a tech career.

Planned Activities and Events

Moving forward, the BC Grad Tech Club will offer a range of activities to support members and help them succeed in the tech world:

  • Monthly General Meetings: Each month, we will host a combination of panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and networking events featuring industry professionals. These sessions will provide valuable insights into the tech industry and practical advice to help our members develop the skills needed to succeed.

  • TechTreks: One of the club’s most exciting offerings will be TechTreks — exclusive industry tours of leading tech companies and innovative startups. We plan to visit major tech hubs like Boston, San Francisco, and New York City, providing members with a first-hand look at the dynamic culture and operations of top tech firms.

  • Resources and Support: To further assist our members, the club will offer an internship opportunity board, an interview prep library, and curated book recommendations. We will also host regular meet-ups focused on practicing Product Management interviews, using frameworks similar to those employed in consulting case interviews. These meet-ups will help our members sharpen their interview skills and improve their chances of landing a job in the tech industry.
